Candle Care

Scent Empire want you to love and experience the beautiful scents of our candles. However the use of candles requires CAUTION and awareness of the associated risks, so please ensure you always follow these safety precautions.

Candle Care

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended. Burn within eye view sight.

  •  Ensure wicks are upright and trimmed to 5mm (1/4 inch) during use and each time candle is relit.
  • DO NOT burn a Scent Empire vessel candle for less than 2 hours or more than 3-4 hours at a time.
  • Your first light will impact future burns. Allow your candle to burn until it covers the entire surface of the jar, a pool of wax will form and give you a  even and consistent glow, preventing tunneling in the candle (a hole).
  •  Ensure you always trim your wick before each use. Failure to not trim your wick will allow a  mushroom tip to be formed and create black smoke and burn a lot quicker.
  • Stop your candle burning when it is approximately 12mm of un-melted wax remains in the bottom of the vessel.
  •  Never move a burning candle. Ensure candle is extinguished and wax is solid and jar is cold before handling.
  • Glass may become hot. Burn candle on an appropriate flat heat-resistant surface.
  • Avoid using in drafty areas, near an open window, air duct or fan.
  • Keep away from children, pets and flammable materials.
  • Keep you candle away from direct sunlight. Failing to do so can discolour and evaporate it's scent.
  • DO NOT use lid to extinguish candle.

     Candle Safety

    • Never allow the candle flame to come in contact with the side of the glass.
    • Do not use if glass is cracked, chipped or broken.
    • If candle has multiple wicks, they must all be lit every time the candle is used.
    •  Never introduce liquids or foreign objects into candle and keep it free of wick trimmings, matches and any flammable materials.
    • If the glass becomes blackened while burning, extinguish candle, allow to cool and clean with a dry paper towel.
    • When not in use, keep candle covered to avoid dust build-up.
    • Use a candle snuffer to properly extinguish a candle flame. If not available, blow gently and steadily on the flame until it is extinguished.
    • Never use water to extinguish a candle.
    • Container candle burn times will vary. Fragrance, colour, burning habits and environmental conditions affect the time a candle will last.
